Corky 2

[Name] Corky 2
[Date of capture] 11.Dec.69
[Currently resides] SeaWorld California
[Previously held at] Marineland of the Pacific
[Parents] -
[Offspring] Kiva*, "Spooky"*, 5 Unsuccessful*

Corky 2 is one of the eldest orcas in captivity, estimate to be 55 years old. She shared her name with another orca called Corky* at Marineland of the Pacific, who shortly died after Corky 2's arrival. Corky 2 lived with Orky 2* and the two were very close. Corky 2 had several pregnancies and calves, but none lived for very long. Corky 2's longest living calf was Kiva*, who lived for 46 days. An explanation to the death of the calves is that the shape of the pool (circular) prevented Corky from being able to nurse effectively.
In December 1986, SeaWorld California bought the animals of Marineland. At Corky 2's new Californian home she suffered problems with the other females, as there were issues of dominance. She was involved in a conflict with Kandu 5*, where Kandu 5* charged Corky, severed an artery and bled to death. Over the years she has played the role of surrogate mother to many of the orcas when they were young. She is a reliable performer in the shows.
