Shouka was born at the French park Marineland France, where she lived for many years with her family. She was very close to them, especially to her father, and it was feared they may mate. Before this became possible, she was moved to Six Flags Ohio. She lived there for two years before moving to another Six Flags park in Vallejo, California. She lived there at 'Shouka Stadium' with bottlenose dolphins. Shouka spent a total of 10 years without orca companionship. This was deemed illegal to keep her in solitary confinement, and she was sent to SeaWorld California in August 2012, where she joined the then family of 8.
